Executive Coaching Programmes Article from jml Training

More and more businesses are employing professional coaches to improve the quality of the work from their employees. Many individuals require coaching before undertaking a job interview, career move or even speaking to the media.

Coaching is now very much accepted by organisations as a challenging but highly effective way of self-development. Increasingly more and more people are seeking one to one coaching at different stages in their careers. Coaching enables managers to enhance their performance, sharpen their critical thinking skills and improve their ability to set direction and lead more effectively.

Some people use coaching to help them address new challenges in their work. Others because they feel they are not accomplishing all they are capable of, or wish to feel more confident in their work role.

The benefits of coaching are significant.

  • Coaching will help you to maximise your own resources more effectively to improve your performance at work.
  • It will help you to achieve both corporate and personal goals by motivating you to realise your full potential.
  • It will help you to strengthen your skills base and develop new knowledge and skills.
  • Coaching will enable you to approach the way you do things much more confidently. It can be about changing "the knowing what to do" into "doing it"..
  • It will increase your level of self-awareness and awareness of the impact that you have on others.

The key objective working with the client is to help you the client focus in on what you most want to achieve. The jml Training coach is not there to tell you what you should do but to help you to come up with your own solutions using your analytical and reflective skills.

The Process

Coaching is conducted on a one-to-one basis. The relationship between the client and the coach is based on confidentiality and built on a high level of trust between the client and the coach.

jml Training uses a structured method to maximise the effectiveness of the coaching. It starts with an introductory session where you identify with the coach the areas you wish to explore. Expectations are clarified and goals and objectives are established. The coach will then work with you to analyse the current position on issues, generate options for change and develop an action plan.

The content of any particular coaching session will also respond to the immediate needs and wishes of the client and the immediate circumstances they find themselves in.

Essentially coaching is about change and transition. It requires a high level of commitment from the client to implement agreed actions and to discuss and evaluate those actions at each coaching session.

The number of coaching sessions can vary dependent on an individual's needs and progress.

jml Training can provide a range of services as part of an individual coaching package. This could include: -

  • Diagnostic Assessment - Using the Myers Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment to help clients gain greater insight into their strengths and development areas and assist their personal development.
  • Career Planning - Providing clients with a structured way to consider their career development. .
  • 360 Degree Appraisal - This provides an opportunity for clients to get feedback on their performance from a number of colleagues. This is done via questionnaire /interview.
  • Leadership / Management Development - Specific coaching on key aspects to further develop an individual's management potential.
  • Training and Development - Clients may identify a need for additional skills training on a range of topics, for example communication skills, influencing and negotiation skills, problem solving or decision-making..
  • Presentation and Media Coaching - An opportunity to sharpen media skills with highly experienced media trainers.
  • Stress Management - Individual support to help individuals to identify and manage stress before it has a negative impact on their career.
